Fresh Advice:

How much does a tattoo hurt?

Question markNutter:D - 2009-01-04 15:04:18 - Tattoos

I'm thinking of getting a tattoo on my lower back for my 18th, Its not going to be big but it might have a few colours in it, Can anyone tell my if It's gonna hurt? I've heard all the horror stories so it would be good to find out if the're true or not. Oh and does anyone know how much they can cost? Thanks xxx

Best Answer:

AnswerI seriously think it's different for everyone. I see some answers where they said they got one on the wrist and that was the worse place to get it. PFF! I have my wrist done and it didn't bother me at all. Also, people saying bony parts hurt worse and I have to disagree with that too! I have my lower back done and it was very painful toward my pant line. It wasn't too bad on my spine or anywhere around that area. The cost depends on what you get and where you go. Some places aer pricier than others so make sure you shop around. Also make sure that the place is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! I don't have any horror stories to share b/c I honestly don't think tattoos are that bad (except for the one on my chest *shivers*) It feels like a really really hard massage. Good Luck!

i'm 15 and had my first tattoo months ago.. its a rose on my wrist and the man said a grown bloke was in so much pain bcus' the wrist hurts the most. so i sat there and prepared myself.. it didn't even hurt! it just depends on your pain barrier. the only scary thing is the noise the needle makes just before they put it into you but apart from that i think you'll be fine :) x

a lot.

Yeah they hurt a lot. I suggest not getting one. Seriously think about when you're old and you have a colorful tattoo on your back and then your grand kids ask "grandma/grandpa what's that?" Embarrassing much?

The outline hurts worse than when it's being shaded in. Going over a bony part of the body is going to be worse than a fleshy part. If you are a woman, it is nothing compared to childbirth. It is nothing compared to recovering from surgery. The only way I know how to describe it is tolerable. You will be able to stand it, especially when the endorphins kick in. I have my ribs tattooed and that suppose to be one of the worst spots. It was still tolerable though.

it usually depends on the person, like piercings... some say it hurts and some say it doesn't. so if you enjoy having needles poked into your back i think you'll be fine. ohh and it only really hurts if they insert the needle into deep.

it hurt A LOT! i dont know how much they cost , it depend.

sweetcherrypie - 2009-01-04 15:12:19
it depends on what your pain threshold is like.ive got a tattoo on my lower back and the outline felt like a hot blade in my skin (im small build too so not much fat on me).it does hurt but the colouring part isn't too bad.it didn't put me off though as ive had more since lol.the price can vary depending on the size

The pain of a tattoo depends on the person, If they can handle pain or not,but if you really want to tattoo I would go and get it and don't worry about the pain cause its not gonna last a long @$$ time... The cost of the tattoo depends on how detailed it is. If its not detailed it's gonna be less but if it is its gonna be more. I would go to a tattoo studio and asking them questions about the design and they will sure tell you how much its gonna be.

I had a tat done 3 months ago, (it was my first), and at first it didnt hurt but when the guy was coloring it in it hurt like hell but it wasnt that bad and i plan on getting more! mine is kinda big..on my lower back and it cost $100

Everyone as a different pain threshold. Of course its gonna hurt a little, but just depends on the person as to how much. I have one on my ankle, and a girl I worked with had one on hers to, and before i went for mine she told me how unbearable the pain was, and how she nearly fainted, I was scared to death lol When i had mine done was nothing like she described. So dont worry about it, just go for it.

its fine as long as you try to relax and acept you're gonna be there and it's not gonna feel good. I personally imagined it was gonna kill but when they started i was actually relieved and found the experience enjoyable. In fact i had 5 hours done on my back overall it feels a bit like a scratch but it's easy to cope with, if it wasn't then loads of people wouldn't have tattoos!

Sweetcheeks1990 - 2009-01-04 15:48:44
It depends where you get it...i got one on my stomach but because it wasnt near bone it didnt hurt...it may hurt a lot more on your back because its near bone if that makes any sense. Mine cost 25 quid and its only a small one

mia - 2009-01-04 15:58:55
It depends on the artist and size for the cost. Mine cost over $100.00. It will hurt, all mine did. It was worth it though. I would give the low back tattoo area a second thought. First you won't we able to see it unless you are looking in the mirror. Second if it's too small it will turn into a blob so don't be surprised if the artist suggest making it bigger. The low back area for a tat is also dated. I have a friend who is almost 40 who has one that's how long the lower back tat has been around as far as I know. It's old news. Your only 18 soon I would think of a more creative area. Good Luck.

Yes it hurts but everyone's different. If you go in preparing yourself for the worst then it won't be as bad, if you go in thinking it'll be fine and it actually wrecks then you're in trouble. Prepare yourself for the worst pain possible, and trust me it won't be that bad. Everyone is different in their own mind and different people can take different pain levels. And anyway, if it does hurt, it'll only be for a bit, after you'll have a hot new tattoo that will last ages and will be worth the 5 minutes of pain you went through. Good luck (y)

oh shut up of corse it hurts!!

Tee Na Na - 2009-01-04 21:02:53
It does hurt on your lower back but it is not the worst place! If you have a low pain threshold the your in trouble if you handle a little bit of pain! My boyfriend owns a tattoo shop in Southgate North london! There minimum is £50 because they use brand new disposable needles everytime, other shops are £40 but if you want black and colour it will be more and then depending on size. I hope this helps

Kilted One - 2009-01-05 07:33:00
The amount of pain depends on the individuals pain threshold and where the tattoo is. The tattoos on my arm and back didn't hurt as much as the ones on my chest or stomach but they all hurt. The closer it is to the bone the more they usually hurt. The cost depends on the amount of time it takes to do the tattoo and the amount of detail in the tattoo. The going rate at a good tattooist is usually around £45-£60 an hour.

my sister had her lower back done, she said it hurt most towards the outside, she said the middle was the easiest part. i have 2 and im not going to lie it does hurt a lot! the outline is the worst part and the colouring is bareable once it is done tho it is well worth it as they look soo nicee :) hope this helped =]
